SHARAKU
Sharaku (1784-1785) Reproductions
An extremely rare series of prints
published in 1940 by Adachi. Adachi
succeeded in reproducing these
famous prints of the 18th century
master, Sharaku, with such
brilliance that they rival the original
prints. Because these prints were
so difficult to make and so
expensive to produce, they were
limited to an edition of 300. Mica
was lavished on the prints, the finest
pigments were used, the paper is
exquisite and hand-made, and the
craftsmen were the finest. |

UTAMARO II
After Utamaro's death in 1806, his pupil,
Koikawa Shunchō, continued to produce prints
in the style of his mentor and took over the
gō, Utamaro, until 1820. These prints,
produced during that fourteen-year period—as
if Utamaro was the artist—now are referred to
as the work of Utamaro II |
